The ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) is the world’s largest developer of voluntary International Standards and, first established in 1946, have designed and published over 19,500 standards over the past 50 years. The International Standards they create primarily ensure products and services are safe, reliable, and of good quality. They also help design tools which minimise company waste and error to increase productivity, facilitating free and fair trade throughout the world.

Some of their most popular, and widely recognised, standards are the ISO 9000 Quality Management standards and the team down at ALPHR Technology are delighted to announce that they have been recertified for ISO 9001:2008 for 2012!

According to the ISO the 9000 family “addresses various aspects of quality management and contains some of the ISO’s best known standards”. Their guidelines state that the standards “provide guidance and tools for companies and organisations who want to ensure that their products and services consistently meet consumer’s requirements and that quality is consistently improved”.

9001:2008, in particular, sets out the requirements of a quality management system and, being the only standard in the family that can be certified to, it is a clear demonstration of superior standard management processes and working practices. In fact, implemented by over one million companies in 170 countries, the ISO 9001:2008 has become a global signifier of quality.

The ISO standard is based upon a number of quality management values, including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management and a continual commitment to improvement. It helps to ensure customers get consistent, good quality products and services which, in turn, bring about many business benefits achieved through improved customer loyalty, an established trust, and mutually beneficial supplier relationships.

The ISO 9001:2008 focuses on 8 main principles:

  • 1. Customer focus
  • 2. Leadership
  • 3. Involvement of people
  • 4. Process approach
  • 5. System approach to management
  • 6. Continual improvement
  • 7. Factual approach to decision making
  • 8. Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

Understanding and complying with each of these principles is crucial and one of the most important parts of ISO 9001:2008 is to actually check your system works. An organisation should perform internal audits to check how its quality management system is working – something ALPHR Technology regularly undertake. In fact, ALPHR make their Business Management System an absolute priority with regular reviews, updates and audits throughout the year. Their key operating processes are reviewed every month, with the complete system being reviewed by the Management Board biennially. This involves researching and understanding customer needs and expectations, measuring customer satisfaction and acting on the results and also considering the needs of all interested parties, including customers, owners, employers, suppliers, financiers, the local community and society as a whole.

Additionally, an organisation may decide to invite an independent certification body to verify their conformity to the standard. One such organisation are the BSI (British Standards Institution) who undertake twice yearly external audits over a three year period for ALPHR Technology and have recently accredited them with the ISO 9001:2008 for 2012 – something ALPHR are particularly proud of.

ALPHR are dedicated to exceptional levels of customer service, superior standard management and working processes and the highest quality products. As such, they recognise the importance of being certified to the ISO 9001:2008 standard as it clearly demonstrates, both to their existing and potential customers, that they have controls in place to ensure they consistently meet client requirements. They originally obtained accreditation to ISO 9001:1994 in the year it was issued and their successful transition to ISO 9001:2000 and now 9001:2008 reaffirms their long-term pledge to providing the highest levels of quality.
